Yale Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) is both a registered Yale undergraduate organization and a state-licensed EMS agency providing regularly scheduled EMS standby coverage to the Yale campus as part of Yale Health. YEMS provides extensive training and certification programs to the Yale community, including a semester-long EMT certification class each semester as well as regularly-scheduled CPR and AED classes, EMT refresher classes, and CPR instructor certification classes.

For YEMS members who wish to obtain CPR instructor certification, YEMS offers a one-weekend, 16-hour CPR instructor certification class each year. The cost of the course is fully covered by YEMS on the condition that participants agree to serve as an instructor for at least one CPR class per semester.

All classes are taught by YEMS instructors who hold CPR instructor certification from the AAOS Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI). Each class lasts approximately 3 hours and confers CPR certification good for 2 years. The cost varies depending on the level of CPR taught.
