This course is for those individuals who have successfully completed a State of Connecticut EMT or EMR program or those that are seeking National Registry (NREMT) certification as an EMT or EMR. The CT State EMT Practical Exam is the psychomotor (practical skills) portion of the testing process leading to State of Connecticut certification and NREMT registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). This CT State Practical Exam is administered under the strict direction and oversight of the State of CT Department of Public Health (DPH) Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). The complete exam consists of a five-station exam process. All five stations must be passed to successfully pass the exam.

Overview

Testing Information
The CT State EMT Practical Exam is the psychomotor (practical skills) portion of the testing process leading to State of Connecticut certification and NREMT registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
This practical exam is one part of a two-part CT certification process with the other part being a cumulative written exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
This CT State Practical Exam is administered under the strict direction and oversight of the State of CT Department of Public Health (DPH) Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). The complete exam consists of a five-station exam process. All five stations must be passed to successfully pass the exam. If only one station is failed then the candidate must meet with their EMS instructor for retraining, at which time the skill will be signed off and submitted to the State. If you fail 2 stations, you must schedule 2-Station Retest which only requires retesting those failed stations. If you fail 3 or more stations, you will need to retake all 5 stations.

Bag-Valve-Mask Ventilation of an Apneic Adult Patient
Patient Assessment/Management – Medical
Patient Assessment/Management – Trauma
Random Skill- Splinting, Bleeding control and shock management
Exam Site Information
We are located at 430 Coram Ave.
There are two parking lots located in the rear of the building. If you choose to utilize street parking, please pay attention to no parking zones, time limit signs and do not block driveways. Police will tow and ticket illegally parked vehicles.
Doors open 40 minutes prior to exam start time and close 10 minutes prior to start time
Candidates arriving late or after the doors close will NOT be admitted. We do not provide refunds for those arriving late or those that do not show up for their scheduled exam.
Registration
Registration for an examination must be received and paid in full no less than 7 days prior to the exam. No registrations will be accepted after that time. This is required by DPH OEMS, not Echo Hose Ambulance Training Center.
ALL REGISTRATION FEES FOR TESTING ARE NON-REFUNDABLE- ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
We do not allow exam transfers, once you register for an exam, that is the exam you will be scheduled for.
If an exam is cancelled (inclement weather, catastrophic event, or lack of candidates), you will be notified via the email you registered with and will be transferred to the next available testing date.
We can only communicate with the registered candidates. We do not allow second party inquiries.
There are no refunds for those that do not show up or arrive late.
Exam Information
Candidates must arrive no later than 10 minutes prior to scheduled exam start time. Candidates arriving later than 10 minutes prior to exam start time will NOT be admitted into the examination and will forfeit their examination fee!
All candidates must bring positive proof of identity in the form of a government issued PHOTO ID (Driver’s License, Military ID, or Passport). You will not be admitted to the test without an acceptable photo ID. Photocopies are permitted.
You will not be provided with exam results on the day of the exam. Your results will be sent to your Primary Instructor by the CT Office of EMS once they are processed. Echo Hose Ambulance Training Center does not have access to your examination results; Questions or complaints regarding the outcome of your exam should be directed to the Chief Examiner on exam day or CT OEMS after your exam has been completed.
Candidates must not wear any clothing that identifies them to an organization, agency, or department (e.g. Fire Department, Police, EMS shirts). No hats or hoodies are permitted during the examination. Open-Toe shoes or slipper type footwear is NOT allowed. Clothing should also be business casual and/or appropriate for the movements and activities being performed (skirts and low-cut shirts, shorts will not be permitted). Those dressed inappropriately may be required to change attire prior to the start time of the test.
Skill sheets, outside notes or paperwork, electronic devices (e.g., cellphones, iPads, Apple watches, laptops, cameras, etc.), weapons, books, and backpacks are not permitted in the testing or staging areas. Please leave these items in your vehicle, if you bring these items into the exam site you will be asked to return them to your vehicle.
Requesting Special Accommodations
Testing Accommodations may only be provided with authorization from OEMS in advance of the examination. Documentation supporting the need for accommodation must be supplied with the requests. All requests for special accommodation must be made no less than ten (10) business days prior to the examination directly with OEMS (dph.emslicensing@ct.gov) or 860-509-7975.
