EMTs are trained in entry-level emergency medical care including those critical skills necessary for rapid response, initial patient assessment and treatment, patient immobilization, patient extrication and movement, and transportation. Patient treatment guidelines are described in local protocols which typically follow both national standards as well as local policies. the safe and timely transport of the patient to the hospital for more definitive care. This 160 plus hour Emergency Medical Technician (EMT- Basic) course includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level. Emergency Medical Technicians are required to complete Continuing Education an EMT Refresher course every two years to maintain their State of CT and NREMT Certifications. EMT Refreshers are 40 hours in length. Once a student registers, an online code will be emailed to the student to allow them to begin the course. Please allow 1 business day to receive code. HeartCode® ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support- Refresher Class HeartCode® ACLS is an official, self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program from the American Heart Association (AHA). HeartCode® ACLS Part 1 uses eSimulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios. Students are presented with a team dynamics lesson, 10 ACLS hospital-based case scenarios, and a written exam. While interacting with the program, students assess each patient, formulate a treatment plan based on ACLS guidelines, and provide treatment. Successful completion of Part 1, the cognitive component, and Parts 2 and 3, skills practice and testing with an AHA ACLS Instructor. Meets the requirements for obtaining an AHA ACLS Provider course completion card. HeartCode PALS Part 1 is a web-based, self-directed program that teaches healthcare providers the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. This program uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning about pediatric advanced life support. After completing Part 1, students practice and test their skills with an AHA PALS Instructor. Upon successful completion of all parts of the course, students receive an AHA PALS course completion card, valid for two years. This class is for Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Athletic Trainers and Athletic Department Staff. This course fulfill coach requirements for college, high school, and all levels of coaching. This is an online AHA CPR/AED/First Aid class. Once registered you will be emailed a course code and link in 24-48 hours for the training program. Upon completion you will receive an online certificate indicating completion of the online content. The American Heart Association Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Online course provides high-quality training in pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED use for infants and children. This blended learning course allows students to complete the online portion at their own pace before attending an in-person skills session. This course is designed for individuals with little or no medical training who require a CPR and first aid certification card for employment, childcare, regulatory requirements (including OSHA), or personal preparedness. It is ideal for childcare providers, teachers, camp staff, coaches, parents, babysitters, and anyone responsible for responding to emergencies involving children and infants until professional help arrives. How the Course Works Register for the course through Echo Hose Community Training Center. Please allow 1–2 business days for your online course access code to be emailed to you. Opioid Education for Healthcare Providers Online Description Opioid Education for Healthcare Providers is a self-directed, eLearning course is for use by a single student that includes modules such as recognition and treatment of opioid overdose (use of CPR and reversal agents), details of the opioid epidemic and opioid use disorder, pathophysiology of pain and opioids leading to addiction, and managing acute pain with alternative pain management options. This is an NREMT and State of Connecticut approved 60 hour hybrid refresher course. The course is a mix of online coursework, classroom lecture, and applied skills. This course can be used for CME or NREMT recertification. Topics include: anatomy and physiology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, trauma, medical emergencies, EMS operations, OB/GYN & neonatology, pediatrics, pharmacology, and special populations. All recert courses are nationally accredited by CAPCE, the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (formerly CECBEMS), and the state of CT. National Component: 30 Hours The National Component requires Paramedics complete 30 hours of approved continuing education. A maximum of 10 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 30-hour requirement. Local or State Component: 15 Hours If specific local and/or state requirements are not specified, required hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 10 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 15-hour requirement.
