An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is an emergency responder trained to provide emergency medical care to the critically ill or injured. EMTs are trained in entry-level emergency medical care including those critical skills necessary for rapid response, initial patient assessment and treatment, patient immobilization, patient extrication and movement, and transportation. Patient treatment guidelines are described in local protocols which typically follow both national standards as well as local policies. the safe and timely transport of the patient to the hospital for more definitive care. This 160 plus hour Emergency Medical Technician (EMT- Basic) course includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level. Requirements » Must be 16 by the last day of class. » Must have a parental consent form signed if under the age of 18 (provided in course) » Clinical time (arranged by course coordinator) » Successful completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, & 800 (done in course) » Successful completion of CPR for the HCP (done in course) » Signing and adhering to a course contract and code of conduct » AAOS Emergency Care for the Sick and Injured 12th ed (online access code provided) Successful completion of all course requirements
