The EMT Basic Course, sponsored by the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad and the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, prepares students for certification at the EMT Basic level through both Virginia and the National Registry. This in-person course runs on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and emphasizes foundational emergency medical skills essential for entry-level positions in EMS. A prerequisite for this course is an American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR certificate, ensuring participants have basic life support abilities. Priority enrollment is given to Montgomery County EMS members, but a waiting list is maintained for other applicants.
