A Department of Transportation course providing training in medical responder tasks vital in early EMS response. This 2-credit course is completed in one semester. There is no certification exam in Arkansas for the medical responder. The course provides skills for community or family assistance and is used by area rural fire departments.

The Emergency Medical Technician Certificate of Proficiency provides entry-level skills for employment by an Emergency Medical Service provider. Students complete EMS-1105 and EMS-1003 and are eligible to challenge the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT-Basic exam. The program includes 24 hours in the emergency room with multiple patient contacts and 24 hours of ambulance ride time with at least 4 patient contacts.
