The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Program at Southwest Technical College will consist of various settings including lectures, practical skills, ambulance ride-alongs, and clinical rotations within emergency room settings. The world of emergency medicine becomes a reality in this program as your mentor may allow you to administer medications, start IVs, or ventilate patients.

The Advanced EMT course expands the role and skills of the EMT. Skills involved in obtaining intravenous and intraosseous access, intranasal, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medication administration, and fluid therapy will be included. Extensive patient assessment knowledge and skills have been integrated throughout the curriculum, as well as enhanced critical decision making.

This course provides the foundational knowledge for future Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Responders. Topics include basic human anatomy, performing a patient assessment, traumatic injury management, airway management, and Basic Life Support cardiac resuscitation. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Responder exams for Wisconsin EMR certification.

The Emergency Medical Technician Program provides practical, clinical, and observational experiences. This program equips you with the ability to handle adrenaline pumping situations while providing the best care for patients. Learn how to assess the needs of patients, check vital signs, and administer medications. In addition to the classroom setting, you will also experience ambulance ride-alongs.

The program is run in partnership with Lakeshore Technical College (LTC). This program prepares students for paramedic-level emergency medical care.

The EMT program at Southwest Tech prepares students for essential emergency medical care roles, providing both medical and trauma response training. It covers key skills such as patient assessment, airway management, and basic life support. Completing the course enables participation in the National Registry of EMTs exams for Wisconsin certification.

This course prepares students for all aspects of emergency medical care, both medical and trauma situations, sanctioned by the Wisconsin Division of Health, at the basic level. Following the most current Wisconsin Revision of the National Standard Curriculum, this course includes didactic and practical skill information in legal aspects, anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, critical thinking skills, airway adjuncts, fractures and dislocations, spinal injuries, soft tissue wounds, pharmacology, stroke, cardiac, diabetic, respiratory, altered mental status, pediatric, geriatric, ambulance operations, and triage.

Student demonstrates updated knowledge and new techniques used to respond to an emergency as an ambulance attendant. Students integrate critical thinking, updated emergency care concepts and skills in managing an overall prehospital treatment plan for their patient.

The Southwest Technical College Paramedic Program is designed for EMTs ready to take the next step in their Emergency Medical Services career. This program builds the advanced knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic exam through interactive classroom instruction, hands-on lab and simulation work, clinical rotations, and ambulance ride-alongs. The program culminates in a field internship where students function as practicing paramedics, applying their training in live emergency situations.
