South Texas College is a community college founded in 1993 serving Hidalgo and Starr Counties. The EMS program prepares students to deliver out-of-hospital emergency care at the scene of an accident or medical emergency, with exit points at EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic levels.

8-week accelerated hybrid program for certified EMTs lacking college credit. Reduces the standard 16-week Basic EMT program in half with primarily online classes and minimal face-to-face instruction. Allows fast-track to Advanced EMT and Paramedic programs.

Intermediate level certificate building on EMT-Basic foundation. Students concentrate on comprehensive patient assessment and learn advanced medical skills. Requires EMT-Basic certification.

The Basic Firefighter Certificate provides fundamental training in firefighting techniques and safety operations. Students learn through hands-on training, preparing them for entry-level roles in firefighting services. Successful graduates are eligible for exemption from tuition fees if employed as firefighters in Texas.

Two-year degree program preparing paramedics competent in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains. Students are prepared for National Registry certification exams at the Paramedic level. Requires EMT-Basic and EMT-Advanced credits.

Entry-level certificate that introduces general anatomy and physiology and patient assessment. Students learn lifesaving procedures including oxygen administration, spinal motion restriction, bandaging, and splinting. Can be completed in as little as 4 months.

Highest level certificate offered. Students concentrate on comprehensive patient assessment and learn advanced medical skills including electrocardiogram interpretation, pharmacological treatments, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols. Requires EMT-Basic certification.

The Fire Science Technology program equips students with comprehensive skills required in fire service careers. Through courses in fire administration, chemistry, and protection systems, students gain knowledge vital for operational readiness. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Firefighters and Fire Officers, addressing the community's safety needs.
