A one-semester certificate program designed to provide students with knowledge and skills of basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and noncritical patients. The program covers human anatomy and physiology, disease process, initial assessment and patient stabilization, proper use of equipment such as automatic external defibrillators, oxygen administration, and airway management. Students also learn about legal issues, scope of practice, documentation, communication, and ambulance protocols. The program is designed to meet all State and National requirements to prepare for the EMT exam given by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
