Portland Community College's Emergency Medical Services program is the largest in the state of Oregon. The program trains and educates emergency medical technicians to the highest standards with certificate and degree pathways, preparing students for NREMT certification.

Available Programs

Choose from available first responder training programs.

Certificate program for students wanting to continue their emergency services education after taking EMS 105 and 106. Includes courses in crisis intervention, rescue operations, and communication/documentation.

Certificate program for students preparing to take the Oregon and NREMT exams. Develops skills for recognition of symptoms of illness and injuries and proper procedures of emergency care. Can be completed in one to two terms.

Associate of Applied Science degree program for students with an Oregon EMT license who want to take the NREMT Paramedic exam. The last step in formal education for entry-level paramedics. Program is accredited by CAAHEP upon recommendation of CoAEMSP.
