Delaware State Fire School

The Delaware State Fire School, under the auspices of the State Fire Prevention Commission, provides Fire, Rescue, Emergency Medical Training and Public Fire Safety Education to the Fire and Rescue service, as well as to Industry and Citizens of Delaware. The school has grown to 3 divisions and delivers EMS and Hazardous Materials Programs along with several types of certification testing.

Provides basic life support skills and knowledge to assess, stabilize, and monitor pre-hospital patients. Covers airway management, CPR/AED, patient assessment, and trauma management. Prepares students to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Responder written exam.

Re-verifies skills and knowledge of Emergency Medical Responders in First Aid, CPR, and AED. Covers airway management, CPR, AED, trauma management, medical emergencies, emergency operations, obstetrics, and pediatrics.

Accelerated version of the full EMT course providing in-depth knowledge and skill-based training to appropriately assess, stabilize, monitor, and transport pre-hospital patients. Offered at Dover Division.

8-hour course helping EMS practitioners conduct comprehensive assessment of geriatric patients. Provides overview of age-related changes affecting body systems and their impact on patient presentation. Uses GEMS Diamond assessment approach.

16-hour course promoting excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in prehospital care. Developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. Covers multi-system trauma patient treatment and critical thinking.

16-hour course teaching EMS practitioners and prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment. Covers three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature including Hot Zone/Direct Threat Care.
