The first phase of recruit school is the fire training, lasting 12 weeks. Recruits engage in classroom instruction and hands-on training using the IFSTA manual. The training includes physical fitness activities and culminates in testing for NPQ Firefighter 1 and 2. Certification is achieved through successful demonstration and examination of required firefighting techniques.
